The Santa Ynez Valley, just east of Santa Barbara, provides beautiful scenery, amazing weather and some of the best wine in southern California. Winding through the hills are wineries, the small town of Los Olivos and the occasional farm stand offering the best produce available. The largest town in the area is Solvang, a Danish themed town with restaurants, wine bars, shops and delicious pastries.
Wine Tasting and Food in Los Olivos
The town of Los Olivos is only about 4 blocks in diameter but far greater than the sum of its parts. Along the 4 streets that make up downtown are at least twenty wine tasting rooms and lovely shops and cafes.
The tasting rooms are open every day and most open around 11am. Many are simply a counter but a few tasting rooms offer a garden to sit in and all tasting rooms encourage their patrons to take time to savor the wine. Plan to spend about ten dollars per tasting for a sampling of four or five wines and to hear the story of each wine as the people working the tastings have vast amounts of knowledge and passion for the wine they serve.
