Trouble at the Brazilian Grand Prix
Jenson Button was already feeling under the weather at a wet Interlagos after he could only qualify in 11th place for last weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix. But as he was taking the short trip back to his Hotel on the outskirts of Sao Paulo, he found himself in the centre of an armed mugging. Fortunately the quick thinking of his driver, a local policeman, meant the F1 World Champion got away unhurt.
But on the same day three Sauber engineers were also mugged at gunpoint, this time just outside the circuit and watches and wallets were stolen. These safety fears to drivers and teams alike have opened questions about the future of Formula One in Brazil. However F1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone, has pledged that this sport will happily remain there for at least another 100 years.
